Green Academy Project:
Making schools the motor of Circular Economy

Maria Tomai

The mission of Green Academy Project is to support the environmental, social and economic development of communities, through more sustainable waste management practices. To achieve that, we start from the most vital part of a society, its schools. Through an innovative approach of environmental education, the Green Academy Project is introducing the principles of a Circular Economy and sustainable waste management in school classrooms, in a fun and interactive way.

The mission of the project is to lead the schools to become the motors of a circular economy and empower the students to bring and sustain a green change in their school environment, family and the broader community.

The Green Academy Project will soon be launched in Accra, the capital of Ghana. Twenty-three primary school teachers have already been trained, thanks to the support of UNDP Ghana, and in collaboration with Ghana Education Service.

We hope that the Green Academy Project will engage more schools across the globe, to take the lead towards sustainable development.
