Patient as a Person Foundation
Matthijs Bosveld & Sjim Romme
Patient as a Person Foundation (PAP) aims to achieve person-centred healthcare through person-centred education. The mission of PAP is two-folded and focuses on students from the health- and social domain on the one hand, and on experts by experiences* (EBEs) on the other. The foundation aims for students in the health- and social domain to receive education that focuses on treating patients as persons, by including people with lived experience with health problems in their education. Secondly, PAP aims to offer every EBE in the Netherlands and Flanders the possibility to participate in education at an educational institution. Within three years since the establishment, PAP structurally facilitates person-centred education for over 1000 students in the Netherlands and Flanders together with 300 EBEs, spread over eight institutions and in close coöperation with public institutions, healthcare institutions and patient organisations.
*The term experts by experience encompasses people with lived experience with (chronic) health problems and health care and use this experience to train students.
